A stunning example of mid-century American folk art craftsmanship, this large-scale crewel embroidery depicts an idyllic New England farmstead scene complete with a white colonial farmhouse, red barn with weathervane, white picket fence, birch trees, and lush textured foliage — all worked in rich harvest gold, deep green, burnt orange, and cream wool thread on a warm amber ground.
The needlework is remarkably detailed, employing a variety of stitch techniques including satin stitch, French knots, and dimensional raised stitching throughout. The reverse shows the original canvas backing stapled to a wooden stretcher frame, as typical of hand-finished studio crewel pieces of the era. Housed in the original rustic walnut-toned wood frame.
